Help support Lena Yohey's volunteer work in Nepal
Many of you know Lena, and know that she has been working to help those with
developmental disabilities at Misericordia Heart of Mercy in Chicago. Now she is taking
the next step, and she needs all the support she can get.
In September 2008, Lena plans to travel to Nepal
for two months to work with children with special
needs in care centers and orphanages.
Why Nepal?
There are thought to be about 5,000 street children in Nepal, and the majority of them
are concentrated in and around the ancient capital of Kathmandu where this project is
based. Some of the children are malnourished or have been victims of domestic violence.
There is a real need for assistance at the many
orphanages and centers where Lena will be working. This program allows volunteers to get involved and
really make a difference to the quality of life
experienced by these children.
Children really appreciate the interaction and support the volunteers provide on a
day-to-day basis. Volunteers are free to use any artistic and musical talents they may have,
to play games with the children and to teach some basic English.
Located between China and India, Nepal is also
one of the poorest and least-developed countries
in the world.
Make a real difference in Lena’s life,
and the lives of children in Nepal.
Her goal is to reach $5,000 for the trip over the next few months.
Any help that you can provide will go a long way.
Thank you,
Steve Niketopoulos
